ascended gear/infusion/agony is anet bringing back some of the worst elements of gw1 pve to gw2. its also pretty much violating their mmo manifesto. attempts to argue otherwise are just twisting logic around the spirit of what it represents, in a game that already has too many useless item and level tiers.
id be more upset about it, but i dont log onto gw2 anymore because the ‘levelling game’ is so boring i cant be bothered to continue it. to know now that the focus is making content exclusively for level 80s to grind doesnt really make me want to try any harder.
if youve been wondering why i havent been posting lately (and i know you are) its because cant handle just how bad diablo 3 and guild wars 2 turned out
i had high expectations for both, particularly for their design and mechanics to shine through. and instead they kind of fell flat and fell short of their intended goals, and there is no quick fix in sight.
so instead im going to focus my efforts on playing games where the designers realize that mechanics matter: board games. card games. which means a lot less playing of mmos.
maybe when i return to playing videogames they will start presenting compelling experiences again.
you cant really give a full review for guild wars 2, just because its massive size and scope means only the most dedicated players have explored all it in breadth and depth. but at the same time after spending hours with the game you can still gather a general impression of the game to your tastes and begin to really critique the work as a whole.

for the short judgement of the game ill quote one of my favorite game reviewers, xoxak:
so half this game is ugly and confusing. the other half is by the books and boring. i love the ugly and confusing part.
and the long analysis is below the fold
